What should I do to prevent this from happening again? Is there a way to get the system to display an error message during shutdown so I can identify the problem? It's been a month since I've installed a new kernel and I would have shut it down a number of times since then, so I don't think that's the problem. Kernel: 5.4.0-91-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.3.0ĭesktop: MATE 1.24.0 wm: marco dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 20 Ulyana Eventually I just held down the power button to shut it off. I unplugged the keyboard and tried on the native keyboard as well but there is no SysRq button so I tried Alt + PrtScr + REISUB, as well as Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and some other keyboard combinations I found online. Tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete multiple times. The laptop is connected with usb to a keyboard and I tried Alt + SysRq button/PrtScn + REISUB, but nothing happened. I waited for 20 minutes and nothing happened. When I last tried to shut down my laptop, I came back to a blank screen with what looked like a single underscore at the top left (not blinking).
